Prez Poll: EC to meet District Returning Officers

The Election Commission will meet District Returning Officers this week matters related to the upcoming Presidential Elections.

After that meeting, it has been decided to call the Secretaries of all contesting political parties for a discussion.

This is the first time that the Election Commission will meet District Returning Officers and Party Secretaries after announcing the Presidential Election.

The Election Commission has decided to issue a special circular regarding how government officials and institutions should conduct affairs during the Presidential Election. Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said that the circular will be issued in the next few days.

The chairman mentioned that the relevant circular is currently being prepared and it will be gazetted with the signatures of all the members of the Election Commission.

During the election period, the necessary orders and instructions for the officials of the government institutions are also to be published by the said circular.

In addition, the Election Commission Chairman said that the circular will also provide guidelines to media organizations about how they should conduct affairs during the presidential election period.
