Prices at Peliyagoda Central Fish Market down

Businessmen of the Peliyagoda Central Fish Market said that the prices of fish in the market have come down. Jayantha Cooray, Secretary of the Peliyagoda Central Fish Traders’ Association, said that with the end of the Warakan season, fish stocks are coming to the market in abundance from the north and the south.

Yesterday (26) at the Peliyagoda Central Fish Market, thalapath and coppera were sold for Rs. 1,600 (wholesale price) per kilo, sawara for Rs. 1,200, seer for Rs. 1,400, prawns (wholesale price) for Rs. 1,300, linna for Rs. 350 and alagoduwa for Rs. 350.

Cooray also said that a kilo of hurulla was sold for Rs. 300 and a kilo of salaya was sold for a price between Rs. 150 to 200 (wholesale price).

He said that compared to this, the retail price of fish has also decreased locally. Yesterday (26) there were reports of a large harvest of small fish from Valachchenai and Mirissa, Cooray said. Ulent activities is not conducive to the advancement of the Authority.
