Prices of fertiliser for plantation crops slashed
Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday (17) instructed the State Fertilizer Company to take steps to significantly reduce the prices of fertiliser used for plantation crops such as cinnamon, tea and coconut.
Accordingly, State Fertilizer Company Chairman Dr. Jagath Perera stated that the prices of five types of fertiliser, namely, APM, YPM, urea (cinnamon), SA (cinnamon) and TDM, produced by State Fertilizer Company will be reduced by Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,000 with immediate effect.
A discussion was held yesterday at the Agriculture and Plantation Industries Ministry regarding the reduction of fertiliser prices. The Minister gave these instructions during the discussion.Apart from this, arrangements have been made to reduce the price of each type of fertiliser produced by the State Fertiliser Company by Rs. 5,000 per metric ton.
Minister Amaraweera said that this step was taken with the aim of increasing the use of fertilisers to increase the production of cinnamon, tea and coconut.
This discussion was also attended by Janaka Dharmakeerthi, Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, A.M.H.L. Abeyratne, Commissioner General of Agrarian Development, and officials from National Fertiliser Secretariat.
