Seven persons including the Principal of a boarding school in Bokkawala, Morakanda in the Kandy District who were released on bail on Wednesday (15) in connection with the assault and torture of a group of children in the school were ordered to be remanded till March 20 by Kandy Additional Magistrate Mohammad Rafi.
The Additional Magistrate had released the suspects on bail with a surety of Rs. 200,000 each when the lawyers who appeared for the suspects made submissions by filing a motion.
The Children and Women’s Bureau of the Kandy Police submitted a motion to the Court yesterday (16) requesting the cancellation of this bail. The Police cited the Court that more complaints are being received in relation to the incident.
After considering the submission by the Police the Additional Magistrate ordered the cancellation of bail and remanded the suspects till March 20. The suspects include the Principal, five teachers and the watchman of the school.
Meanwhile, Central Province DIG Priyantha Weerasuriya yesterday said that a special Police team will be deployed to the school located in Bokkawala to record statements from the teachers after ten students were found brutally assaulted at the school premises.
He said that a special investigation is being conducted to find out whether other students of the school located in Bokkawala in Kandy have been subjected to such attacks and various types of abuse.
