Kalutara North Traffic Police OIC Inspector Harsha Kumara told the Daily News that a person who had gone to visit a remand prisoner at the Kalutara Remand Prison on Monday (16) was arrested for having carefully hidden heroin inside a parcel of kiribath he had brought for the prisoner.
A woman officer who was on duty at the Prison Main Gate detected the narcotic hidden in 29 tiny packets which were placed in a box of a medicinal cream, Police said.
The suspect, aged 23, is a resident of Wekada, Panadura.
He was due to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate on Tuesday (17).
Kaluara North Traffic Police are carrying out further investigations.
