Privileges Committee urged to conduct probe on MP Sabry Raheem
Leader of the House Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha raising a matter of privilege requested Parliament to inform the Parliamentary Committee on Ethics and Privileges about MP Ali Sabry Raheem, who brought three kilos of gold and a stock of mobile phones illegally to Sri Lanka and take measures to conduct a comprehensive investigation with regard to this incident.
MP Ali Sabry Raheem illegally brought this gold and mobile phone to Sri Lanka on May 23 2023 from the Bandaranaike International Airport’s VIP terminal by abusing parliamentary privileges and his diplomatic passport. He said that the Sri Lankan Customs has fined Rs.7.5 million on this member.The Minister also said that all the goods brought by the concerned MP were confiscated.Privilege of the supreme Parliament and all the MPs has been violated because this MP who has violated the Member’s code of conduct and the public trust as a public representative. Therefore, an extensive investigation should be carried out against this MP under Section 118 of the Standing Orders, he said.
