Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara said that the Examinations Department is conducting formal investigations into two cases of examination fraud reported at the Grade Five Scholarship Examination held on Sunday (15). He said that two cases of examination fraud have been reported in connection with the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination and formal investigations are being conducted in this regard.
Accordingly, it is alleged that an assistant examiner in the examination centre in the Polpithigama area has helped a student to answer the question papers.
Also, it has been reported that the examination papers were released on social media platforms within less than three hours after the end of the examination from two examination centres established in the Galaha, Kandy and Kalutara areas.
According to the Examination Act, it is an offence to release the examination papers until two months after the end of the Grade Five Scholarship Examination.
The Examinations Commissioner General stated that formal investigations are being conducted regarding these two incidents and accordingly the persons involved in these two incidents were called to the Examinations Department and their statements were recorded.
He also emphasized that if they are found guilty in these two cases (of releasing the examination papers on social media platforms), they will be severely punished. Disciplinary action will be taken against the persons involved in these two incidents as well as against the accused in the Polpithigama incident.
Meanwhile, a separate investigation is being conducted into an incident of the delay of commencing the examination reported from the examination centre in the Hettimulla area in Kegalle.
