Probe into 430 vehicle registration racket handed over to CID
The investigations being carried out by the Central Anti-Corruption Task Force regarding
the organized smuggling of 430 cars and jeeps imported illegally and registered under old and invalid vehicle numbers have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police.
Accordingly, the officials of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Illegal Property and Assets Investigation Division took over the investigation yesterday (22).
The investigations carried out by the Central Anti-Corruption Force in relation to this racket which is being carried out with the help of the corrupt officers working at the Motor Vehicle Registration Department have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department, due to the excessive number of investigations that the Central Anti-Corruption Force has to carry out on a daily basis.
“Criminal Investigation Department has ample facilities to conduct such investigations. Also, a separate team of officers can be allocated for the investigation. The Inspector General of Police is also concerned about this and has handed over the investigation to the Criminal Investigation Department. This crime is not something to be taken lightly, a senior police officer said.
