Probe into girl’s collapse from sudden illness

A 14-year-old female student of the Panagoda Parakrama Vidyalaya in Athurugiriya has died due to a sudden illness.

The school girl studying in Grade nine was pronounced dead after being admitted to the Oruwala District Hospital, Homagama police sources said.

The deceased girl has been identified as a 14-year-old resident of the Mullegama area in Homagama.

Based on the preliminary investigations that have been carried out on the incident by the Police, it has been revealed that the girl had informed her mother of a sudden pain in her hand while she was studying with her friends at her house after school on Wednesday (18). The girl’s mother had resorted to treating her hand pain with home medication as it didn’t look serious at the time after which she had returned to studying with her friends but had suddenly started vomiting and then became unconscious and collapsed.

The girl was immediately rushed to the Oruwala District Hospital where she was pronounced dead after being examined by doctors at the hospital. Homagama Police are carrying out further investigations on the incident.
