The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) yesterday informed Colombo Additional Magistrate T. N. L. Mahawatta that it has started an investigation regarding a Maldivian national who reportedly took parts of the uniforms of Sri Lankan armed forces to Maldives twice a month. The Colombo Crime Division informed the court that they are conducting an investigation into whether this was related to any terrorist activities.
The Colombo Crimes Division informed the court that information was uncovered that the parts of uniforms of the three armed forces were bought by the Maldivian from Kompannaweediya and Homagama with the help of a Sri Lankan businessman.
The Sri Lankan businessman involved in the incident had told the police that the Maldivian comes here twice a month, and goes to business places and buys shoes, belts and other uniform parts with the logo of the security forces.
He had told the local businessman that these items are taken for uniforms of school bands in that country. The Magistrate, who considered the matter, issued local and foreign orders related to the investigation.
