Police have begun an investigation over the threat made by Aura Lanka Chairman Wiranjith Thambugala to Rajangana Police OIC Chief Inspector G.W.S.Gajasinghe for not allowing a musical show to continue after 14 days. “You know, your uniform will be stripped,” said the Chairman of Aura Lanka Wiranjith Thambugala, threatening Chief Inspector G.W.S.Gajasinghe in an incident on which an investigation has been started under the leadership of an Assistant Superintendent, a senior police officer said. A series of music concerts were held by the Aura Lanka in Rajanganaya and permission has been given only for 14 days. The 14 day period ended on July 24. Permission has been requested from the police to hold this music concert series for another six days, but the Police have not given permission. A senior police officer mentioned that even the Wildlife Department had raised objections to the musical show.
Information revealed that the Police did not allow this musical concert to be held outside of the permitted time and a group of farmers’ organisations had also held a protest for the last few days requesting to extend the period of this musical concert.
A senior police officer said that the police have given maximum support to the musical concert series to be conducted without any obstacles and in a manner where no instances of breaking the law and peace in the last 14 days. But the Police have strongly objected to extending the time and dates of the musical concert, the officer said.
