Probe into turning off oxygen supply at Homagama Hospital

A special investigation has been initiated regarding the closure of the main oxygen supply valve in the oxygen supply service room of the Homagama Hospital, blocking the oxygen supply services to the patients and endangering the lives of the patients.

Homagama Hospital’s Chief Management Service Officer E.E.D. Indralal had made a complaint to the Homagama Police in this regard.

According to the complaint, this act was committed on Friday (19) at around 7.45 pm. A senior officer of the Homagama Police stated that the oxygen supply room was not locked and it appears someone had entered the room and turned off the oxygen and other air supplies.

Investigations have also revealed that the same person who turned off the oxygen supply had also opened several oxygen and gas cylinders.

Due to stopping the supply of other air including oxygen, there was a risk of losing the lives of several patients, police sources said. Police said hospital staff’s vigilance had prevented any major incident.
