Prof. Thilakarathna re-appointed Open University VC

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has re-appointed Prof. P. M. C. Thilakarathna as the Open University’s Vice Chancellor from June 23.

Prof. Thilakarathna completed his term of three years as Vice Chancellor of the university recently.

During his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Thilakaratna succeeded in introducing novel study programmes such as Master of Science in Energy of Circular Economy, Post Graduate Degree programme in collaboration with Universities of Peradeniya, Moratuwa, Ruhuna and European universities under the sponsorship of European Union.

He was a senior Professor of Finance attached to the Kelaniya University’s Accountancy Department.

Prof. Thilakarathne began his career as an Assistant Lecturer of the university and he later became the Senior Lecturer Grade II of the same department before being appointed Senior Lecturer Grade I.
