Protest against KNDU Bill: Two arrested
Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) Administrative Secretary Chameera Koswatte and another female protester (29) were among the arrested.
They were to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court on the charges of damaging public property, illegal mass gathering and blocking the road.
The Police Spokesman said that Maharagama OIC Janakantha suffered serious injuries to two of his fingers when the protesters toppled the iron barricades near the entry road to Parliament on Tuesday.
He said the OIC was receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital as two of his fingers had fractured.
The protest was organized by the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) against the proposed Kotelawala National Defence University Bill.
The protest march caused heavy traffic in the area and a tense situation ensued between the protesters and the Police.
