Public urged to avoid violence – Minister

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, yesterday requested the public not to take the law into their hands by becoming a victim of provocative and hateful statements.

The Minister has drawn attention to an irresponsible statement made by a public representative in the plantation sector last Sunday. He is of the view that such statements will incite public anger.

This public representative had made a statement that they should counter attack for self-defence against violence and that it is their right if the government and the law do not protect them.

This statement made by the public representative had received a wider publicity in social media.

The Public Security Minister emphasized that if someone takes the law into his hands and acts or supports to create such a situation, the law will be strictly implemented against any person or organization regardless of rank.
