Pulindu a cricket star in the making
Fifteen year old Pulindu Perera of Dharmaraja College, Kandy scored an unbeaten century against Trincomalee District under 15 cricket team at the Zonal Cricket tournament conducted by the Provincial Cricket Association held at Pallekelle International Cricket stadium recently and before that he scored fifty runs against Zone II captaining the Under 15 Zone one side at the same venue and he scored another fifty runs against Trinity College, in a warm-up cricket match recently at Asgiriya Grounds.
Pulindu is a G.C.E. (O/L) student and the baby of the first XI Cricket team of the College and he started his cricket career in the Cricket Academy of Dharmaraja College coached by Ananda Wijesekera in the year 2014 at the age of eight Years. Pulindu was training continuously for two years and in the same year he was selected to the Under 13’B’ team without much success but in the following year in 2015 in the Cricket season he came out with a fine performance in batting to score a total of 224 runs under the captaincy of Vibavith Ehelepola as a member of the Under 13’A’ team and his highest score being 85 runs against Maris Stella College, Negombo.
His performance was outstanding in the Division One Cricket tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association. In the year 2018 he led the School Under 13 ‘A’ Cricket team as a third year player and scored more than 175 runs in the cricket season at the Under 13 Div. One Cricket tournament, his highest being a half century against Kegalle Vidyalaya. In 2019 he scored a total of 228 runs in the Under 17 Cricket tournament and his highest score was against Trinity College, Kandy, a superb knock of 105 runs. In the year 2020 he was unable to perform much due to the situation in the country but in 2021 he started the cricket season in the Under 19 tournament match against St.Peters’ College, Colombo with a steady knock of of 62 runs when he struck eight fours and one huge six.
