Punyawardene to coach Sri Rahula

Sri Rahula College, Katugastota, is going great guns in rugby and and the side will be coached once again by one of their products Deepal Punyawardene and the side will be led by H.F.C.R. Foneseka a talented player and is sure to lead the side well. This coach Deepal Punyawardene started his rugby at this school from under 13 and ended up playing in the year 2000. This time the MIC and the POG is once again the experienced M.Y.S.B. Piyasena. who has been giving his support and sure to continue his good work and is sure to put his strength into play and build a top side. Deepal Punyawardene is a coach who learnt his rugby at this school under the famous coach late Kalu Perera and he is all out to give his best to come out with a good talented side. In the1970’s Sri Rahula College took up rugby, have done well producing top players. One of their finest players is wing three-quarter Nihal Ananda who did well due to the backing he got from the school. He became the first to play for Kandy Sports Club, Up-Country and Sri Lanka. He did his best for Kandy Sports Club and was famous during his days, as a top try scorer. Gamini Abeyakoon another top player was an excellent line out jumper who played for Kandy Sports Club and Up-Country, while Centre Mohmed Rizvi played for Army and Sri Lanka

Sri Rahula College in 2018 emerged Cup champions in the Under-16 Division II inter-school Milo Rugby Tournament which was held at the Maliyadeva Grounds in Kurunegala. Sri Rahula MV defeated Sri Sumangala College, Panadura in a closely contested final by 17 points to seven. Earlier the champion side overcame Dutugemunu MV and Sarasavi Uyana in the quarter final and semi-final.

During coaching of Kalu Perera, NIhal Ananda, Roshan Ratnayake and, Nalin Wijesinghe they produced some top players. They have been making a great impact in the schools rugby scene in the recent past.

TCK swimmers do well

Recently the Trinity College Junior School Inter House Swimming Meet was held at their Swimming Pool, with many young up and coming swimmers in action, they showcased their class in swimming skills in a variety of categories, from freestyle to breaststroke. The event celebrated not only the thrill of victory but also the joy of sportsmanship. The first place went to Boarding House (302 points) , 2nd place – Carter Reds (134 points) , 3rd place– Carter Yellows (129 points) , 4th place – Campbell House (61 points) and 5th place – Carter Blues (49 points). Thechampion swimmers of each grade were Grade 3 – S.M.D.A.D Serasinghe (Boarding House) , Grade 4 –.G.V.D.B. Rathnayake (Boarding House) , Grade 5 – M.M.A. Anfas( Carter Reds) and W. Pradeepan (Boarding House)
