Puts entire education system of the country in crisis – Kaviratne

Samagi Jana Balwegaya (SJB) Member of Parliament for Matale District Rohini Kaviratne said that the country’s entire education  The MP said that more than 500,000 students have applied to sit for the Ordinary Level Examination this year, but due to this crisis, a situation has arisen where it is not possible to conduct the examinations.

Kaviratne further said that some of the university lecturers who are currently away from activities related to the marking of answer scripts are engaged in teaching activities in private universities and as a result, the learning activities in those universities are continuing unabated.

The MP also said that although the university teachers have the right to protest against the country’s tax situation, they cannot hold the country’s secondary education system hostage in order to get special tax concessions based on their profession.
