Race Course murder: University student further remanded

The university student arrested and remanded for allegedly murdering his girlfriend with a sharp weapon at Race Course grounds in Colombo was ordered to be further remanded till February 13 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday. When the Magisterial inquiry into the murder of the University girl was taken up before the Magistrate, the father of the deceased girl had given evidence.

However, the suspect was not produced before the Court. The Prison Officials informed the Magistrate  that the suspect is being treated in the mental ward of the prison hospital. The Magistrate had earlier ordered the Prison Authority to obtain a report pertaining to the mental health of the suspect from the National Institute of Mental Health. Accordingly, the Cinnamon Gardens Police stated that the aforesaid report has not been received yet. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for February 13.
