Rahul, Jadeja help India take the lead

An unbeaten 46-run stand between half-centurion K. L. Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja helped India to a slender eight-run lead by lunch on Day 3 of the Trent Bridge Test yesterday.

Rain played a bit of a hide and seek since morning, delaying proper play for the better part of the session.Only 11 balls were sent down since morning before the interruption, forcing an extra half an hour to be added to the session once play resumed five minutes past noon.

England’s frustration though was relatively short-lived. Ollie Robinson had the dangerous Rishabh Pant chipping one straight to extra cover on 25 but not before the southpaw squeezed out two lucky boundaries – a streaky four with the edge evading the gully fielder followed up a top-edge that sailed comfortably over the fine leg fence.

Jadeja played a couple of exquisite straight drives – the first one helping him become the fifth Indian to complete the double of 200 wickets and 200 Test runs and the second taking India to the brink of England’s 183.
