Ranil Wickremesinghe’s victory should be assured to ensure SL does not become another Bangladesh
Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s victory should be assured with a massive mandate to ensure that Sri Lanka does not become another Bangladesh.
He said that the students, extremists, racists and violent activists of Bangladesh have ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, burned down the Parliament of Bangladesh, kicked out Supreme Court judges, expelled army officers, killed minorities and are causing a great disaster.
He was addressing a public gathering in Homagama, Pinketha Road.
Addressing the gathering he further said, “Young students have made the country unable to govern by forming a caretaker government under the leadership of 84-year-old Mohammad Yunus. In recent days, electricity has been cut for between 15 and 19 hours. Many factories have been closed. Only half of the public sector salaries are being paid.
“Foreign investors and wealthy businessmen have started leaving the country. Bangladeshi university students have abandoned their education and started leaving the country. Foreign news reports that 216 large-scale factories have been completely closed. It is reported that the country has become unstable.
“Indeed, Bangladesh was brought to the brink of great destruction by these strugglers. September 21 is the last chance for you to decide whether or not to allow such a situation to arise in this country. I strongly emphasise that Sri Lanka can be prevented from becoming another Bangladesh only if President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s victory is ensured with a massive mandate.
