Ranil’s group of parties to contest Parliamentary polls together

Political parties that supported former President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the recent Presidential Election will contest the upcoming General Election under a common alliance and possibly the ‘Gas Cylinder’ as the symbol, former Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said yesterday. Speaking to the media in the company of former Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday, Pathirana said in the North and East some parties such as former Minister Douglas Devananda’s EPDP may opt for their own symbol while remaining within the alliance.

He said former President Ranil Wickremesinghe although not contesting the election will support the alliance.

He said a group of former MPs had held a discussion in this regard at the Election Operations office of the former President at Flower Road in Colombo yesterday as well.

Pathirana said the alliance will include a large number of political parties and groups who supported former President Wickremesinghe at the last Presidential Election.
