Ranil’s security not removed – Thalduwa

Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa yesterday stated that rumours that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s security personnel have been removed is completely false and as a former President, Wickremesinghe has been given security through a separate security division called XPSD 08.

Thalduwa said that such security divisions are functioning separately for the security of every former President of this country. The Police Spokesperson said that the officers who were deployed for former President Wickremesinghe have not been removed at all, and other former officers and 50 officers of the Police Special Task Force, have been deployed for his security.

Thalduwa also pointed out that a separate security division is operated for each former President and those divisions are named as XPSD 01/02/03, etc. and since Ranil Wickremesinghe is the eighth President of the country, a separate security division – XPSD 08 – operates for him.

The Police Media Spokesman said that the number of officers required for the security division will be determined by a committee headed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security and the appropriate number of officers will be provided for the security of the former President.
