Three sisters’ of the same family at St Paul’s Girls School Milagiriya won colours at the school colours awards ceremony which is a rare feat.
The Three sisters Farhana Shammama, Anika Shazi and Ifra Shasmin were awarded colours for Badminton and Squash .Farhana and Aniqa are in same Badminton team bringing honour for St Paul’s.All three sisters who excelled in racquet sports never mixed up their studies with sports .

levels being the College Games Vice Captain in 2019/20 and was also the captain of the SPM Badminton team which became the runner up at All Island Schools Badminton Championship and was awarded colours for Badmintonin 2019.
Aniqa Shazi was the Vice Captain of the school Badminton team which became runner up at the S.L.A. Ratnayake Memorial All Island Inter-School Badminton Championships in 2023. Aniqa also excelled in squash bagging the second runner up spot at the 32nd Junior National Squash Championship in the under 15 age group.
Academic wise Aniqa was also a primary and junior prefect and also a member of the School Interact Club and Directress of Community Services and at the SPM awards ceremony she was awarded colours for badminton.
Shasmin the youngest of the three siblings following her two elder sisters began using the badminton racquet at the tender age of six and led SPM under 11 badminton team in 2019 when they became doubles runner up at the Sri Lanka Schools Double Team Championship.
Shasmin has made giant strides after she was spotted by coach Malik during a coaching session, who introduced her to coach Thalagala at Austasia,Thalawathugoda She took the sport of squash seriously and ended up third at the 3oth Junior National Championship in 2019 and at the 32ndedition she went further ahead to become the under 11 champion.
Since then she has had a successful stint and in the year 2022 she was under 13 runner up at the Yeti Open Squash tournament and 33rd Junior National Squash Championship, under 13 champion at the 14th Air Force Open Squash tournament and third place in the under 15 age group. She took part in the 29th Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship held in Pattaya,
Thailand and the KL International Junior Open Squash Championship.
In the year 2023, Shasmin succeeded in bagging titles in the under 13 age group and runner up in the under 15 age group namely Sri Lanka Open Squash Championship, Yeti Open Squash Championship, Prima Open Squash Championship, 34th Junior National Squash Championship, 15th Air Force Open Squash Championship and at he 30th Asian Junior Individual Championship held in Dailan, China
Shasmin for her outstanding performance was awarded colours for two sports, badminton and squash and also received a special award for the most promising and upcoming player for the year 2022.
The three siblings have sports in their blood as their grandfather Thassim Junkeer an old boy of Zahira Colombo was an outstanding sportsman having played cricket and hockey at the top level. He later went on to become a cricket umpire and is yet involved in the field which no doubt was an inspiration for the three sisters.
Professor Rangika Halwathura was the chief guest at the colours awards ceremony while former Athletes ,teaches ,past and present students graced the occasion.
