Rashmi Sewvandi Silva a sportswoman par excellence

Right hand top order bat, Right arm medium pace bowler, Safe fielder at any position with a good arm, Under 17 and 19 School Cricket Captain, Member of the Seenigama Cricket Club Division One Team, Former Sri Lanka Air Force ‘B’ Division Cricketer, Sri Lanka Navy Division One Cricketer and Member of the Emerging Squad, Athlete, Elle, Volleyball and Netball player Hanthana Devage Rashmi Sewvandi Silva has brought honour and glory to her two schools St.Anne’s Balika Vidyalaya Wattala and Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha with her deeds in the field of sports.

Rashmi was born on 4 th December 2000 and hails from Jayasirigama, Ragama and she was admitted initially to St.Anne’s Balika Vidyalaya Wattala in 2006 when Sister Mary Krishanthi was at the helm of the school and her first class teacher was Mrs.Devika. She participated for the school Inter House Sports Meets when she was in grade two and her events were 50 metres, Long Jump and High Jump and continued up to grade five and won places.

When she came up to grade seven she commenced Elle, Netball, Volleyball and Cricket and she represented the school Elle Team and went up to Divisional, Zonal, District, Provincial and All Island and in Volleyball too she was a member of the school under 13, 15, 17 and under 19 teams and they were the Divisional and Zonal Champions in time to time and in Netball she represented the under 15 and 17 team and went up to Divisional and Zonal Tournaments and her Teachers in Charge were Mrs.Kumudini and Mrs.Champa Anthony respectively.

Then in 2013 to 2016 she represented the school cricket team and came under M.Asitha and represented her alma mater in Divisional, Zonal, District, Provincial and All Island Tournaments and she captained the under 17 team and she passed the Ordinary Level Exam with flying colours and her parents Jayantha Silva and Thanuja Lasanthi decided to admit their daughter to Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha in the hope of enhancing her education and her forte which is cricket and she came under Saminda Perera in addition to cricket she took part in Netball and Athletics at the inter house level.

In 2017 she walked in to the under 19 Cricket Team with ease and she played for the inter schools Singer Tournament and they were the Second Runner up and played in the Big Match against Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda and in the following year they were the All Island Runners up and she was the Vice Captain and they won the Big Match versus Anula Vidyalaya and she was adjudged as the Best Fielder and their Coach was Asela Sampath and in 2019 she captained the team and they emerged as the All Island Runners up and at the same time she joined Seenigama Cricket Club and played in the Division one and the Coach was Mahesh and in 2021 she joined Sri Lanka Air Force ‘B’ Division Team and came under Chamika Bandara and presently she is representing Sri Lanka Navy in Division One under Dhammika Prasad and she is a member of the Sri Lanka Emerging Squad since 2021 and her coach is Palian Mahesh Weerasinghe.
