Record 868,009 TIN registrations in 2023/2024 – IRD
With the implementation of the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) and Individual Registration Programme for Income Tax, the number of individual income tax registration files for the year 2023/2024 has increased significantly compared to year 2022/2023.
The number of income tax reports submitted for the assessment year 2022/2023 was 333,313. Inland Revenue Commissioner General Sepalika Chandrasekara stated that the number has increased by 868,009 during 2023/2024.
She also said that the registration for income tax has been expanded accordingly, paying more attention to people such as businessmen, professionals and people who own assets.
Those who have been registered have to submit their income reports through the online system and a payment slip has also been sent by post to be used if a payment is due.
“If you are currently registered for income tax but do not have enough income or profit to pay tax due to reasonable reasons such as business activities having closed down or lack of income sources, you have made a request to the nearest inland revenue office with supporting documents, when the registration can be disabled.
Individuals earning more than Rs.100,000 per month or more than 1.2 million rupees per year have to pay income tax.
