Regularise education activities of children affected by inclement weather – PM

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that the education authorities have been instructed to regularise the education activities of the children in the areas that were affected by the recent bad weather conditions.

The Prime Minister mentioned this while distributing school equipment and dry food items to children affected by the disaster on Tuesday (11).

The distribution of school equipment and dry food items to the affected children due to the disaster situation was done at Hanwella Church, Puwakpitiya Purwaramaya and Avissawella Subhadrarama Pirivena under the patronage of the Prime Minister.

The premier stressed that it is the responsibility of the adults to ensure that nothing obstructs the children’s education, and that school cleaning and renovation work has already started with the participation of local administration and line institutions.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that these kinds of activities are necessary to heal the minds of the children whose books were damaged by the floods.

Hong Kong Shakyamuni Buddhist Foundation, Sri Lankaramaya in Singapore, have contributed to this programme.

A group including Venerable Maha Sangha and clergy of other religions, Colombo District Secretary Prasanna Giganage, Prime Minister’s Regional and Rural Development Coordinator K. G. Wijesiri and Seethawaka Divisional Secretary participated.
