A number of religious ceremonies were held to mark Sri Lanka’s 77th Independence Day. An all-night Pirith chanting ceremony was held at Independence Square prior to the Independence Day celebrations.
A Hindu religious ceremony was held yesterday at Mayurapathy Sri Bathrakali Amman Kovil in Colombo in which Fisheries, Aquatic, and Ocean Resources Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar also took part.
An Islamic religious ceremony was held at Wellawatte Jumma Mosque with Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih participating.
A Catholic Mass was held at All Saints’ Church, Borella, under the patronage of Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.
