Remanded for alleged torture of mistress

An Assistant Director of a state financial institution was remanded until November 9 by the Acting Magistrate of Gampaha for torturing and causing physical harm to a woman who is said to be having an affair with him.

The suspect is a resident of Oruthota, Gampaha. Police said that injured is a 40-year-old woman who also holds a top position in an institution in Colombo.

Police said that the suspect and the victim are not legally married.

During an argument between the suspect and the victim, the suspect had allegedly tortured the victim at times even using a heated iron.

Police said that the woman had allegedly jumped from the top floor of the house in an attempt to escape.

Police are conducting investigations to ascertain whether she had jumped or was pushed from the upper floor of the house.

Police further told the Court that the injured woman is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at the Colombo National Hospital.
