Reshan Algama clinches Gold at Srixon RCGC

Reshan Algama exhibited golfing brilliance with a final-day score of 69, securing the Gold Division Championship at the fifth Srixon RCGC Junior Open Golf Championship held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. The tournament, proudly sponsored by Srixon, concluded yesterday with Algama’s outstanding performance.

Competing in the Under-19 category with 18 holes play, the 15-year-old Algama clinched his first-ever victory in the Srixon RCGC Junior Open Golf Championship. His remarkable gross scores of 71, 66, and 69 resulted in a grand total of 206, marking a significant achievement in the Gold Division. Algama, having previously won the title in the Silver Division last year, displayed his golfing prowess.

Kumar Danushan, mirroring Algama’s impressive second-day gross of 66, gave a spirited fight but settled for the runner-up position with a total score of 208. Yannik Kumara secured the third place with gross scores of 74, 74, and 68, totaling 216. Reigning Sri Lanka Junior Open Champion Jevahn Sathasivam finished fourth with gross scores of 73, 74, and 77.

In the 18 holes play, the Silver Division’s Under-15 category witnessed Adithya Weerasinghe of Anuradhapura claiming the championship with a total score of 224 (79, 76, 69). Keshav Algama, sibling of the Gold Division Champion Reshan, became the Silver runner-up with a total score of 238 (79, 80, 79). Keya Abhayaratne won the Silver Girls Division title with 313, while Aaradhi Samararatne secured the runner-up position with a total score of 338.

In the Bronze Under-13 age category, played over 14 holes, Shenal Nimsith (171) and Nimasha Dahamdi of Anuradhapura (246) emerged as the champions for boys and girls respectively. Lavindu Premaratne (189) and Aamindi Umasha (283) became the Bronze Division Runners-up for boys and girls respectively.

The Copper Division, featuring the Under-10 age category with nine holes play, saw Revaan Amarasinghe clinching the title with a total score of 107. Jaidon Herath secured the runner-up position with a score of 111. Hesandi Gayansa Meepawala (141) and Vihara Herath of Anuradhapura (142) clinched the runner-up positions for girls.
