The Criminal Investigation Department has arrested a retired teacher and a security guard involved in defrauding a land worth Rs.3.7 billion in Kotte belonging to a prominent social worker and a businessman. The police information revealed that the relevant land, which is more than an acre in size, is said to be located in an area close to the Parliament.
According to a complaint made by this businessman, who has also held the position of chairman of a leading Buddhist organization in the country, the Criminal Investigation Department conducted investigations and arrested these two suspects.
The Criminal Investigation Department states that the retired teacher is a resident of Gothatuwa and the security guard is from Rajagiriya. The security guard has been arrested for aiding and abetting in the crime. The information of the Criminal Investigation Department stated that in addition to these two suspects, information about the involvement of a doctor and other people in this fraud are being revealed and investigations are going on. A senior police officer mentioned that this land fraud is an organized fraud and it is suspected that these people have engaged in similar frauds earlier.
