United National Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday (3) that the government’s position over the International Monetary Fund’s annual report on Sri Lanka should be revealed immediately.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released a report on Sri Lanka on the morning of March 2, stating that the government has reduced foreign exchange reserves, increased commodity prices, advising the Central Bank not to print money, advising the increase of VAT and income tax to enable revenue collection, and to decide the value of the dollar in terms of the market.

He said that a number of such issues have been raised, including the decision to sell fuel at world market prices without incurring any losses to the government. Wickremesinghe asked the government whether Sri Lanka approaches the IMF or not?. He said that a clear statement should be made regarding this.

Wickremesinghe stated this at a discussion held with a group of UNP seniors yesterday (3) morning. Wickremesinghe who said that he requested a Parliamentary debate subsequent to the report being received, also mentioned that he would be questioning this in Parliament next week.
