Rishad’s Brother-in-Law arrested

A Brother-in-Law of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Rishad Bathiudeen was arrested by the Police yesterday the charge of sexual abuse as per the provisions of the Penal Code, Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said.

The suspect (44) is a resident of Medawachchiya. The suspect was to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate yesterday.

The arrest was based on a statement by a 22-year old woman, who served as a domestic servant at the residence of ex-Minister Bathiudeen during the period from 2015-2019. She had told the Police that she was a victim of rape at the residence of ex-Minister Bathiudeen.Accordingly, the Police have commenced a separate investigation on the statement given by the 22-year old woman.

She is also from Dayagama and had been brought to Colombo by the same broker, now arrested in connection with the death of a 16-year old girl.

The Police said that a statement was recorded from another female (32) from Dayagama, who previously served as a domestic servant at the ex-Minister’s residence.
