Badminton competition in Sri Lanka is now very competitive, especially in the open singles in the quarter- finals. The young players are very eager to win their matches. Young players like Viren, Rasindu, Chamath, Savianka and some of the other players who even though had a good tournament cannot play to their full potential, as they lack mental strength. But young players like Viren, Rasindu and Jason can get many opportunities by playing international matches overseas and they will get a lot of experience which would help them to get the much needed foreign exposure which would stand Sri Lanka badminton in good stead in the near future.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily News Rising Star Academy Badminton head coach Indonesian Tony Wahyudi said “I am very happy with the achievements of the Rising Stars academy players in the second tournament this year which was held by SLBA. In the first tournament held in Nuwara Eliya, Rising Star Badminton Academy players only reached the Semi Finals in the under 17 category and in the open double runner up category. But in the second tournament which concluded a couple of days back, we had very good results and Rising Star players won a lot of medals. Viren became the champion in open singles while Rasindu and Viren bagged the open doubles, Jason and Savianaka clinched the under 19 mixed doubles while Natasha and Isuri were the under 17 Women’s doubles runner up. After securing these results, personally for me I am very happy to see that all the players have done very well in the last two months, especially in this tournament. Lot of players have learnt a lot and I hope the players can keep their consistency in their games in the next tournament to bring glory to Rising Star Badminton Academy”.
