Talawakelle Police said that one young man was killed and three other young men were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries in a clash between two groups of youth near Holyrood Tea Factory in Talawakelle.
Sivagnanam Sajeevan 22 years old, the father of a child living in Great Western Estate, Talawakelle , was killed in a clash between two groups on November 13, evening. The Police said that the young man died after being attacked and cut by sharp weapons and the three young men who suffered cuts were admitted to Lindulla Divisional Hospital for treatment and transferred to Nuwara Eliya General Hospital for further treatment. One of the injured was the brother of the deceased young man. Preliminary investigations by Talawakelle Police have revealed that the clash took place due to long-standing enmity between two groups belonging to Watagodde area of Great Western area of Talawakelle. The Police said that the two factions first clashed during the Thai poosam festival held in Talawakelle town about four months ago and attacked and damaged a tree-wheeler.
Police said that five people from both sides have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the killing and clash, and three of them are currently undergoing treatment at the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital.
The arrested suspects were to be produced in the Nuwara Eliya Court yesterday 14 and the body of the deceased has been kept at the Lindulla Divisional Hospital and will be taken to the Nuwara Eliya District Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Talawakelle Police are conducting further investigations in this regard.
