Roadblocks to strictly enforce travel restrictions
Persons travelling from one province to another in violation of provincial travel restrictions will be arrested and their vehicles will be taken into police custody, Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said.
Rohana said police had identified that people often enter from one province to another through by-roads and that steps have been taken to set up roadblocks on such by-roads as well. Therefore, in addition to the police officers, members of the Army will also be deployed to enforce provincial travel restrictions and those entering and exiting from one province to another will be thoroughly checked at roadblocks, the police spokesman said.
Those who have been summoned by their employers on the basis of service requirements, health workers, public servants and employers and others given permission to travel between provinces will be allowed to pass, he added.
The Police will peruse official identity cards, written documents inviting a person to work by the employer, valid electronic documents or any other proof of eligibility to travel between provinces at checkpopints.
