Roaming elephants close school in Arachchikattuwa
Principal of the Karukkuliya school in Arachchikattuwa yesterday closed the school and arrangements were made to bring the schoolchildren back to their homes after two herds of wild elephants stormed the village yesterday noon.
These two herds of elephants entered the village yesterday morning and destroyed crops and coconut cultivations. Later they had stayed in an area which is 100 meters away from the school. Arachchikattuwa Wildlife officials said that arrangements were made to drive them away from the villages.
The Wildlife Department has deployed a team of officials from Puttalam Wildlife office to assist in the operation.
