Rohit, Rahul help India take upper hand

Rohit Sharma’s wicket at the stroke of lunch gave England some respite as India marched to 97 for one on the second morning of the Test series opener at Trent Bridge, reducing their deficit down to 86 courtesy of a fine opening partnership.

Under overcast skies, it was a session of two halves, both belonging to India nonetheless.

England began the proceedings with Ollie Robinson along with James Anderson and not Stuart Broad but both showed immense accuracy and discipline to not let the Indian openers get away. By the drinks break, India had added 25 runs in the 14 overs bowled in the first hour of the day without any damage though Rahul twice had edges falling short of slips. In between, England also burnt their second review on Rohit who shouldered arms to a length delivery from Robinson that came in slightly but would have still missed the off-stump.
