Spirited CH and FC team created the biggest shock of the ongoing league tournament to down favourites Navy Sports Club outfit by 28 points (4 tries, 4 conversions) to 22 (3 tries, 2 conversions, 1 penalty) in their SLR ‘A’ Division Inter-Club League Rugby tournament first-round match played at Navy grounds in Welisara yesterday. CH led 28 points to 5 at halftime.
CH dominated the game through their forwards along with their speedy three quarters led by inspirational captain Rohitha ‘Chichi’ Rajapaksa, who came up with a sterling display in the first half of the match to outplay their counterparts in the loose and mid field.
CH and FC play maker Rohitha was a source of inspiration to his entire team-mates with his spectacular runs down the ground along with his booming kicks to touch and capped a fine performance in the match by scoring a brilliant try and slotted in four difficult conversions in the game to lead CH by scoring a total of 13 points in the game. For the winning CH and FC team, the four tries were scored by number eight Samuel Ogbebor, fly half Rohitha ‘Chichi’ Rajapaksa, full back Avantha Lee and hooker Prasath Madusanka, while all four conversions were fired across by fly half Rohitha Rajapaksa.
For the losing Navy Sports Club three tries were scored by number eight Janith Laksara, skipper cum second-row Adeesha Weerathunga, second-row Nirosh Perera, while winger Chathura Seneviratne slotted in the two conversions and the solitary penalty.
