Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the patron of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) paid a glowing tribute to Rohitha Abeygunawardena, MP, identifying him as true people-centric politician.
The former President further said: “I accepted Rohitha’s invitation very happily because of the respect I have for him. The greatest happiness for a politician is to serve the people. Rohitha enjoyed that happiness from the time I knew him.
“Rohitha still has a long way to go. His role as the national convener of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is appreciated by the entire party.
“After the dark era, the age where democracy will take centre stage is emerging. Leaders who fled in the face of challenges are telling fairy tales today.
“They want to reverse the gains and stop the country from recovering. It is not possible to move the country forward by appointing those who only talk and criticise everything. I urge people to support leaders who will take the country forward.
“A captain’s skill is recognised not in a calm sea but during stormy weather. This saying applies to a true leader. It must be said that Rohitha is a leader with such characteristics.”
