Royal face off Trinity in blockbuster clash

The defending champions Royal College will face their moment of truth when they confront traditional rivals Trinity College in a key Inter-Schools Under-20 ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament match at the Royal Sports Complex in Reid Avenue today.

Both teams are vying for a place in the Cup Championship segment from Group-1 after having won their opening two matches of the tournament in style.

Even then, for Royal this game will certainly be an acid test as they will be under pressure for the first time this season following two relatively easy bonus-point victories against St. Anthony’s College (22-12) and Kingswood College (53-0) respectively.

In contrast, Trinity have figured in two tough games this season where they had the better of S. Thomas’ College (20-13) to regain the Canon R. S. De Saram Shield and followed up with another hard-fought (25-18) triumph against hometown rivals St. Anthony’s College last week.

Nevertheless, Royal will have the home advantage while Trinity will be performing away from home for the first time in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Royal will take the field with a staggering 12 tries under their belt from just two games but the fact is that Trinity have played against two quality opponents, and they will not mind going in as the underdogs.
