Royal Institute qualify for second round

With an outright win, two first innings leads and a drawn game in the first round, Royal Institute Colombo led group C to qualify for the second round of the under 15 division three cricket tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
A 148 run fourth wicket stand by skipper Sadew Gamage (84) and Navindu Udesh (38*) and match bags of seven wickets each by Chaniru Yaneth (4/21 and 3/16) and Nethuka Dinsara (3/20 and 4/35) helped Royal Institute register an innings and 30 run win over Vidura College in their first game of the tournament.
In their second game played at NSCA grounds at Ratmalana Royal Institute had to settle for a first innings lead even though they bundled out Royal College Panadura for a paltry first innings score of 39. Royal Institute declared their first essay on 193/5 to which Disas Undupitiya and Sadew Gamage contributed with half tons after which Sadew Gamage grabbed four wickets to bundle out their opponents.
In the third game Sadew Gamage and Thanuda Rusiru captured three wickets each to restrict St Joesephs College Nugegoda to 128 runs but Royal Institute were 94/7 at close of play. In the final game of the first round Disas Undupitiya and Sadew Gamage posted 70 plus scores to help Royal Institute declare their first essay at 287/5 after which Thanuda Rusiru, Manul Jayslath and Chaniru Yeneth bowled well to restrict St John’s to 80 runs.
