The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to grant a onetime allowance Rs.10,000 to the officers below executive grade who did not participate in the trade union action demanding to rectify their salary anomalies, Cabinet Spokesman and Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said. He said that a number of trade unions in the government and semi-government sector began trade union action on July 8 and 9 demanding  the government to rectify their salary anomalies without reporting to duty by applying sick leave. Even though the President had earlier decided to grant them a salary increment earlier however several quarters have pointed out to the President such a decision may create salary anomalies.

“Accordingly the government decided to grant them to a onetime allowance of Rs.10,000,” the Minister said.

The Minister said that a letter of commendation will also be issued to each and every officer who reported to duty despite the trade union action.
