National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) Chairman Rajeev Suriyaarachchi said that 98,000 houses which have been stopped mid way have been planned to be completed promptly.
He said that Rs.24,000 million will be required for that. The Chairman also mentioned that construction work has already started as per the instructions of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.
The Chairman further said that 98,000 half-completed houses were added to the national housing system because new projects were started without finishing the projects started by the previous Governments.
The Chairman stated this while participating in the mobile service held yesterday (3) to solve the problems of the Nittambuwa Ranpokunugama housing scheme in conjunction with World Habitat Day.
“Rs.3,750 mn have been allocated to our institution from the Treasury this year. About Rs.2,000 million has already been received. We hope to speak with the President in the future. After that, we believe that we will get all the 3,750 million rupees. Our authority has organised many different programmes through the district offices during this World Habitat Week,” he said.
