Minister of Transport Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardana said that Asian Games Gold Medallist Tharushi Karunaratne is a national asset and the government will do its utmost to further develop her talents and win an Olympic medal at the felicitation ceremony organized by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation on Saturday.

He said that Chairman of Araliya Group Dudley Sirisena has come forward to sponsor Tharushi in her bid to win a medal at the Olympics. In addition Dr. Mihira Wicramarachchi has undertaken to provide Tharushi with nutrition and healthcare. Dudley Sirisena speaking on the occasion said that Tharushi Karunaratne is a national asset and it is the duty of alls Sri Lankans to support her and he will help her win an Olympic medal.

Tharushi Karunaratne thanked the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation for organizing this event and her intention is to win an Olympic medal having won a gold medal at the Asian Games after 21 years.

The felicitation ceremony was organized by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation headed by its Chairamn Dr. Prasad Samarasinghe and also present on the occasion were Tharushi’s coach Susantha Fernando and her family members, Director of Araliya Group Angela Sirisena and General Manager of E-wis Group Nalaka Ranasinghe.
