UKRAINE,RUSSIA: With Russia’s offensive in Ukraine completing its ninth day on Friday, a fire at at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant after an attack by Moscow rang alarm bells across the world capitals. The Russian forces, Kyiv said, attacked the nuclear power plant near power hub Energodar that led to a huge fire. Hours later, however, it was confirmed that the Russian forces had seized the plant. The attack comes as Moscow continues its full-scale invasion in Ukraine despite both sides concluding their second round of talks in Belarus to discuss military and humanitarian issues and a future political settlement of the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Essential equipment at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was unaffected after a fire there, with no change in radiation levels, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Friday, citing the country’s regulatory authorities.“The Ukraine regulatory authority said a fire at the site had not affected ‘essential’ equipment and plant personnel were taking mitigatory actions,” it said. “There was no reported change in radiation levels at the plant, it said.” Meanwhile, on Thursday, amid the ongoing Russian offensive, Ukraine’s parliament called on the United Nations and other international organizations to send a peacekeeping mission to their country. – THE HINDUSTAN TIMES, RUSSIA TODAY, ARAB NEWS,NDTV
