SAARC Film Day Spotlights Haldaa
The SAARC Cultural Centre, in collaboration with the National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka, is set to captivate Sri Lankan cinema aficionados with an exclusive screening of the acclaimed Bangladeshi film Haldaa. The event will also feature an engaging online discussion with the film’s director Tauquir Ahmed.
Scheduled for August 25, starting from 2:30 pm, the event will take place at National Film Corporation Cinema Hall, Tharanganee Theatre, located at No. 303, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07.
Haldaa, directed by the talented Tauquir Ahmed, has garnered critical acclaim and recognition. The movie is an exploration of the Haldaa River, Asia’s sole natural carp breeding centre, where its story unfolds. The film beautifully captures the struggles of local fishermen, environmental challenges, intangible heritage, social conflicts, and a poignant love story, all intertwined with a myriad of emotions that will undoubtedly captivate audiences.
Set against the backdrop of the polluted Haldaa River, the film delves into the financial burdens imposed on fishermen and their families due to environmental degradation. It tells the tale of their unwavering determination to overcome these challenges and the resilience of the women from the fishing families who face the brunt of these circumstances.
