Sachith Silva – the speedy three quarter cum superb kicker
Sachith Silva played his School Rugby as a speedy three quarter cum a superb kicker for his alma mater Royal College Panadura and St.Josephs College Maradana in the inter schools rugby tournament.
Then he went on to represent the Sri Lanka national under 20 seven a side team and under 19 fifteen a side team in the Junior rugby Asiad with distinction. He also represented Sri Lanka senior national Seven a side rugby team in the Asian sevens .
He represented Police Sports Club in the inter club rugby tournament as an exceptional three quarter.
Speaking to Daily News Sachith said “Because of my family background made me enter the world of sport”.
“I have been guided and supported by lot of people.mainly my parents, my brother, Sister, relatives, my friends, also my schools Royal College Panadura, St. Joseph’s College Colombo and most importantly my coaches who guided me from the very small age till now which include Eshana Gunawardana,Nilfer ibrahim, Dinesh Kumara, Anuranga Walpola, Asanga Rodrigo, Shamly Nawaz, Dilan Soyza, SP Lalith Leelaratne,IP Hashan gomes, Ransilu Jayathilaka, Fazil Marija, Police rugby board of SSP Abeykoon, DIG M R Latheef, DIG Hafeez Marso, SSP Neranjan Abeywardena ASP Ajantha, SP Nizam Jamaldeen, CI Samarakoon, IP Chamika Ranasinghe. Hence I’m always grateful to all of them”.
“I saw my elder brother Iroshan play rugby and I had a passion for rugby. Hence I thought it was the most suitable game for me”. “Throughout my life, my top priorities are my family and rugby”.
“My most unforgettable incidents will always be the day I got selected to the national rugby team. Hence that incident will always be in my memory right throughout my life as one of the most unforgettable incidents to date”.
“Whenever I have leisure time, I always Play cricket with friends and go travelling I like to go to Kandy and it’s my favourite destination while my favourite rugby player is Fazil Marija”. “So far my greatest accomplishments are winning the 2017 school Milo PresidentS trophy championship and becoming the top points scorer (110 points) in the inter-school rugby league tournament”.
“Whenever I have free time I watch movies, my favourite movie is Van Helsing and my favourite actor is Robert Downey Jr”. “Actually I don’t compare myself to any one, Because every person have
their own uniqueness and I am always doing what I believe only”.
My favourite singer is Ranidu and my favourite song is Rookantha Gunathilakas – Ukulata nawath eda wage”.
“In the President’s Trophy semi final, I was selected as “man of the match”. At that moment many coaches, friends and senior rugby players and old boys of my school complimented me”.
“Thus far as a young man I’m very happy with all my achievements”. On a concluding note Sachith said he likes to describe himself as a simple man in life”.
