Sadeera guides Tamil Union to clinch title
Sadeera Samarawickrama scored an unbeaten 58 in 70 balls with 4 boundaries as Tamil Union recorded seven wickets win (D/ L method) over Army SC to become the champions at the Major clubs limited over cricket final played at the SSC grounds yesterday. The Tournament was successfully conducted by SLC while Tournament Secretary Samantha Dodanwela and SLC head of National cricket Chintaka Edirimanne gave away the main awards.
Army SC led by all rounder Thisara Perera choose to bat first but their top order struggled at 84 for 6 wickets in 21.4 overs while medium paceman Santhush Gunathileka made an early breakthrough to wreak the top order with taking three quick wickets in his five overs spell given away only 14 runs. However experienced Asela Gunaratne 59 in 88 balls with 4 fours and Mahesh Kumara 57 in 78 balls with 3 fours and a six added 74 runs seventh wicket stand to build up the innings which finally reached 198 all out with one ball to spare. Santhush Gunathileka and experienced all rounder Isuru Udana were the pick of the Tamil Union bowlers took three wickets each. Tamil Union chasing a target of 199 runs but their innings was interrupted by rain two times and finally according to the D/ L method they had to get 153 runs in 37 overs.
Sadeera Samarawickrama was leading the way to scoring match winning knock of unbeaten 58 paved the way to reach their target 34 balls remaining with seven wickets in hand to clinch the championship in grand style.
In fact Dinesh Chandimal the experienced former skipper was not played for Army SC as his father in law passed away yesterday. Himasha Liyanage was replaced his place and Sadeera Samarawickrama was named Man of the Final.
