The Ridiyagama Safari Park employees had clashed over a dispute on March 23 after the National Zoological Gardens Director General Shermila Rajapaksha had visited the park. The safari park’s veterinary surgeon had also been present during the clash, the Police Media unit stated.
The veterinarian had lodged a complaint with the Ambalantota Police stating the two safari drivers assaulted him while the drivers lodged a complaint stating the veterinarian had assaulted them. Later the veterinarian had got himself admitted to the Hambantota Hospital while the two safari drivers had got admitted to the Sooriyawewa Hospital claiming to have sustained injuries in the attack.
One of the two safari drivers who is alleged to have assaulted the veterinarian was arrested on March 25 and produced in the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court the same day and the other driver was arrested on the 26 and produced in Court.
The case will be taken up again on October 20, while further investigations are being carried out by the Ambalantota Police.
